Tigers Roar into Super Regionals After Dominant Win Over Little Rock
By The Bayou Insider Staff
The LSU Tigers are one step closer to Omaha.
With a thrilling 10–6 win over Little Rock on Sunday night, LSU not only claimed the NCAA Baton Rouge Regional title, but also reignited championship hopes in front of a roaring home crowd at Alex Box Stadium. What started as a nerve-wracking night turned into a showcase of grit, power, and poise that defines LSU baseball in June.
Now sitting at 46–15, the Tigers are heading into the Super Regionals with momentum, confidence, and a team that appears to be peaking at exactly the right time.
A Tale of Two Halves: Tigers Rally from 5–1 Deficit
Early in the game, it looked like LSU might fall victim to an upset. Little Rock came out swinging, jumping to a 5–1 lead by the third inning. The Tigers struggled to string together quality at-bats, and the usually reliable defense showed signs of early jitters.
But head coach Jay Johnson didn’t panic—and neither did his players.
The turning point came in the fourth inning when LSU’s offense exploded for six runs, sparked by clutch hitting and aggressive base running. That surge not only erased the deficit, it broke Little Rock’s spirit. From there, the Tigers never looked back.
Ethan Frey’s Career Night Ignites the Comeback
Catcher Ethan Frey was the undeniable engine behind LSU’s turnaround. Frey went a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate, starting things off with a solo home run in the bottom of the first inning to answer Little Rock’s early surge.
But his biggest moment came in the fourth. With the bases loaded and the Tigers trailing by three, Frey blasted a three-run double off the left-center wall, sending the crowd into a frenzy and giving LSU a 6–5 lead.
Frey would go on to add another hit and finish the night with four RBIs, solidifying himself as the night’s MVP.
Luis Hernandez: Quiet Power, Loud Results
While Frey’s bat led the rally, Luis Hernandez brought the thunder with two solo home runs, one in the fifth and another in the seventh. Both came in key moments that kept momentum on LSU’s side and helped stretch the lead.
Hernandez’s raw power and ability to deliver in clutch spots have made him a critical piece of LSU’s postseason lineup. Opposing pitchers now have to navigate Frey and Hernandez in the heart of the order—a daunting task for any staff.
Casan Evans: A Relief Outing for the Ages
LSU’s comeback wouldn’t have been possible without the calming presence of Casan Evans, who came in as a relief pitcher and absolutely dominated.
Evans entered the game in the fourth inning with the Tigers still trailing and immediately took control. Over six innings, he struck out 12 batters, allowed just one run, and completely shut down Little Rock’s offense.
The performance wasn’t just statistically impressive—it gave the offense time to breathe and build a lead while crushing any hopes of a Little Rock comeback.
Super Regional Showdown: LSU vs. West Virginia
With the regional title secured, LSU now sets its sights on West Virginia, who advanced from their own regional and will now travel to Baton Rouge for a best-of-three Super Regional series.
Super Regional Schedule at Alex Box Stadium:
🗓 Game 1 – Saturday, June 7 @ 1:00 PM CT
🗓 Game 2 – Sunday, June 8 @ 5:00 PM CT
🗓 Game 3 (if necessary) – Monday, June 9 (Time TBD)
West Virginia is a scrappy, well-coached team known for its speed on the bases and small-ball tactics. LSU’s power, deep bullpen, and postseason experience will be tested—but playing at The Box gives the Tigers a critical edge.
Alex Box Stadium: Where Postseason Dreams Come Alive
If you were in the stadium Sunday night, you felt it: the tension, the roar, the rally—it was pure LSU baseball in June.
From kids waving pom-poms to die-hard fans banging on the bleachers, the LSU faithful brought the noise and created a postseason atmosphere that few teams can match.
With the Super Regionals coming home, Tiger fans are ready to make Baton Rouge the loudest place in the country this weekend.
Looking Ahead: The Road to Omaha
The Tigers are now just two wins away from the College World Series. After the rollercoaster of the regular season, this team is finally hitting its stride—combining veteran leadership with explosive talent.
Head Coach Jay Johnson has guided the Tigers through adversity all year long. Now, with a hot lineup and a bullpen anchored by arms like Casan Evans, LSU is positioned as one of the most dangerous teams left in the tournament.
