The Bayou Insider: Nonprofit Vision Summary

Mission Statement:
The Bayou Insider exists to preserve, celebrate, and protect Louisiana’s unique identity through values-driven journalism, cultural storytelling, and civic education.

Who We Are

We are a Louisiana-first nonprofit news and culture platform dedicated to truth, transparency, and tradition. Our goal is to serve the people of Louisiana with meaningful stories that reflect their values, honor their past, and strengthen their future.

What We Do

  • Investigative Reporting: We expose issues affecting Louisiana citizens, from government dysfunction to economic injustice.

  • Cultural Storytelling: We highlight our state’s forgotten traditions, festivals, foodways, and folk stories.

  • Educational Projects: We produce annual deep-dives on topics like Poverty Point, plantation history, Mardi Gras origins, and more — modeled after How the States Got Their Shape.

  • Faith Reflections: We share grounded, respectful explorations of Louisiana’s spiritual roots and modern expressions of faith.

Why It Matters

Louisiana’s identity is misunderstood, misrepresented, and underreported.
The Bayou Insider gives voice to our heritage, champions local communities, and helps readers understand what makes this place not just different — but worth preserving.

Our Impact Goals

  • Build Louisiana’s most trusted nonprofit voice in civic news and cultural preservation

  • Produce educational tools for schools, churches, and tourism partners

  • Create jobs and opportunities in rural storytelling and local journalism

  • Grow a grassroots network of engaged readers, writers, and supporters across all 64 parishes

About The Bayou Insider Staff

The Bayou Insider Staff is a group of secret conservative ninjas (yes, really) dedicated to truth-telling, liberty-loving, and impact-making journalism rooted in Louisiana soil.

We believe in:

  • Christian and traditional values

  • Limited government

  • Religious and individual freedom

  • The rule of law

  • Free markets

  • Human dignity for all

Our contributors include business leaders, students, writers, educators, and everyday Louisianians from every corner of our great state—each one committed to preserving what makes Louisiana strong, free, and faithful.

You will see that our articles are written under the “The Bayou Insider Staff” byline. These represent collaborative efforts from our editorial team or contributors who prefer to remain behind the curtain—for now.

We’re building a team, a movement, and a voice for those who still believe in faith, freedom, and the future of Louisiana.

Editorial Policy: The Bayou Insider

At The Bayou Insider, our mission is to inform, inspire, and engage the people of Louisiana by providing trustworthy, Louisiana-first news, commentary, and cultural coverage.

1. Curated, Not Copied

We often curate stories from reputable local and national news sources to provide our readers with clear, concise, and locally relevant insights. When we reference external reporting, we always credit the original source either within the article or at the end, with links whenever possible.

2. Local Context Matters

News doesn’t happen in a vacuum. Our role is to connect the dots and help our readers understand how statewide and national events affect our communities here in Louisiana. We aim to break down complex stories and reframe them through a local lens.

3. Accuracy and Integrity

We fact-check our content and strive to ensure all summaries and commentary are fair, accurate, and up to date. When errors occur, we correct them promptly. We do not publish unverified rumors or speculation as fact. If we are wrong, we will own up to it. If we miss something, we will do our best to correct it.

4. Clear Attribution

Whenever possible, we link directly to original sources and clearly label information derived from other outlets. We respect intellectual property and adhere to fair use standards.

5. No Clickbait. No Nonsense.

We do not chase outrage or sensationalism. Our goal is to provide meaningful content that reflects the heart, grit, and values of the people of Louisiana.
